Hi! I am Ana Cristina and this week I am the translator of the group. This week, the five words are:
  • Meridian: one of the imaginary lines joining the north and south poles at right angles to the equator, designated by degrees of longitud from 0º at Greenwich to 180º.
  • Parallel: imaginary lines around the earth parallel to the equator, designated by degrees of latitude ranging from 0º at the equator to 90º at the poles.
  • Cartography: the art, technique or practice of complaining or drawing maps or charts.
  • Map projection: a means of representing or a representation of the globe or celestial sphere or part of it on a flat map, using a grid of lines of latitude and longitude.
  • Latitude: an angular distance in degrees north or south of the equator (latitude 0°), equal to the angle subtended at the centre of the globe by the meridian between the equator and the point in question.
