Being the analyst of this second practice

Hello! I am María José Gómez Gracia and this week I am the analyst, the responsible to say the best and worst things in the whole week. In addition, I have to qualify different aspects of the group.

Projections

 1. What was the best part of the activity? The best part of this activity was to discover that the maps have distortions, which means that the dimension of many countries is not the same that in the reality (some are bigger than other or vice versa). It is too interesting and a lot of people unknown that.

2. What was the worse? The worst part was researching information, because some questions that we had to answer were very difficult to find. As a result of that, we had to do a big effort researching information on the internet but finally, we could resolve these problems.

 3. What was the best moment of the week (in the work of the group)? The best moment was when we met after class last Thursday (13th February) to continue working. That day we discovered a lot of interesting things and the whole group cooperated in the best way.

 4. What was the worse? The worst day was when we started working in class, we couldn´t do anything with the computer because the internet didn´t work well. This made that we couldn´t advance in class.

 5. What have you learnt?  We have learnt that all the different maps have distortions and it must be known by all the people. Mercator´s projection is the most useful but it has a lot of mistakes. Robinson´s projection is balanced but it has poles distortions. The worst of Azimuthal’s projection is that you can see both hemispheres at once.

 6. What do you need to conserve -as a group- for the next weeks? We are a hard-working group and I think that each week we are making an effort to improve. Day by day we are more motivated.

 7. What do you need to improve –as a group- for the next weeks? We must find a solution for the bad internet connection of our class because we lose lot of time there.

 8. How THIS content is related to other contents in the course and in your degree? The different maps help us to understand that what we teach is not always right and consequently, it supposes teaching “erroneous” things to our students.

 9. There is any evident social connection of this content (news, politics, etc.)? The different maps have a social relation to this content, for example, in politics, news, newspaper, in classroom, etc. In life, we usually find different versions of the reality. “All depends on the eye of the beholder” In classes of geography, the Mercator map is often used and many people don´t know that this type of map has lots of distortions. I think that when a teacher or a professor uses these types of maps, he must to inform to their class that these maps are wrong.
